Working togther to protect children and adults at riskof harm

Safeguarding Week Logo - Round Text

Today (Monday, 11th November) marks the beginning of Safeguarding Week 2019 and Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board (CTMSB), along with all other Safeguarding Boards throughout Wales, is taking this opportunity to work with its partners to highlight safeguarding issues and promote safeguarding activities.

Safeguarding Boards are statutory partnerships made up of the agencies that are responsible for safeguarding children and adults at risk within their regions and ensures that people of all ages are protected from abuse, neglect or other kinds of harm.

The week will begin with the Launch of the new All Wales Safeguarding Procedures. These are a single set of safeguarding guidelines for children and adults at risk and will standardise practice across Wales and between agencies and sectors.

The main focus of Safeguarding Week this year for CTMSB which covers Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT), Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend, is domestic abuse, with the majority of activities taking place during the week focusing on this issue. In addition to a number of training courses and public awareness raising sessions, one of the key events is “Tackling Domestic Abuse – Information, Advice and Learning”. This drop-in event is aimed at professionals and will be taking place on Thursday, 14th November, from 10am until 4pm at the Redhouse, Merthyr Tydfil. Further information on this event can be found by selecting this link.

Joint Chairs of CTMSB, Giovanni Isingrini, Lisa Curtis Jones and Sue Cooper, said:

“The theme this year for Safeguarding Week in Cwm Taf Morgannwg is domestic abuse, which comes in many forms. Domestic abuse is not acceptable and in no way, is ever the fault of the person who is suffering from this.

“Within RCT, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend, there are many domestic abuse services and as a Board, we are working hard with our partners to raise awareness of these to make sure that men and women who are experiencing domestic abuse, are aware of where they can go for help and support and by providing that information, we hope to give them the confidence to make that first step.”
