Offensive Weapon Homicide Review Survey

Please see below the contents of an e-mail which has been sent to the Safeguarding Board from the Violence Prevention Unit, in relation to the Offensive Weapon Homicide Review Survey.

I am writing to invite you to give your views in this survey on the new duty for local safeguarding partners to carry out an Offensive Weapons Homicide Review (OWHR) as set out in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill.

As part of the new OWHR duty, the Home Office is running a pilot in early 2022 in three areas with high levels of offensive weapon-enabled homicides. As a key stakeholder in one of the proposed pilot areas, we are asking you to share your opinions and experiences with existing reviews to help us to shape the new requirement to fit the needs of the local partners and have a real impact on serious violence.

As well as informing the review guidance, the results of the survey will directly inform resource allocation to pilot areas to carry out this new OWHR duty

We are therefore reliant on you sharing your expertise and insight in order to create a review process that can work for you as a practitioner in a pilot area, before the guidance is formalised.

Please also pass this survey on to colleagues who attend any of your local or regional community safety or safeguarding boards — both adults’ and children’s. The deadline for completion is 31st August.
