Mental Health Support for Children and Young People - New Resources at Christmas

How are the young people you know?

We know that Christmas is often a time when people feel low or lonely. We know that this year has been a real challenge to us all and our children and young people are feeling that particularly strongly.  The Welsh Government Young Person’s Mental Health Toolkit is here to help.

Repository - Hwb (gov.wales)

The digital resources available on Hwb are a quick and easy way for children and young people to access a range of resources and help them find support. The six sections link to websites, apps, helplines and more.

This week, the Welsh Government are launching their social media campaign to remind everyone that support is out there.

Please could you remind colleagues, share the link and look out for Welsh Government's ‘Help Us to Help You’ posts. Liking and sharing the campaign posts will help increase the reach and might mean that the one person who needs that help the most sees the toolkit and finds the help that they need.

The overall resource has been prepared to provide young people with a single point of reference, so that they can independently find help on topics that they feel are affecting them. It’s designed with self-care in mind and is appropriate for independent access, for carers to access themselves – a number of the websites have specific advice for parents and carers - and also as a tool to provide structured conversations around mental health and wellbeing. It's a resource that can also be accessed by professionals and carers to give them ideas of what exact support is available.

The attached guide gives a site by site breakdown that will help child care social workers, residential staff and foster carers signpost young people to sites that will support them with their specific needs.

In the production of the resource, Welsh Governmnet were very mindful of the individual needs of all young people and the resource was first developed by recent graduates, feedback was sought from the National Youth Stakeholder Group and further feedback has been sought recently from young people. The needs of care experienced young people has been considered as part of this process.
