SACPA Digital Safeguarding Conference

The Safeguarding and Child Protection Association has published the full programme for their annual Digital Safeguarding Conference, which takes place on Wednesday, 9 February 2022.

Running alongside Safer Internet Day 2022, (8 February), this conference highlights the importance of understanding the positives and pitfalls attributed to the internet, device use and social media when it comes to safeguarding. An often-cited point of disconnect and disagreement between young people and professionals, lonely or isolated individuals and those trying to support, digital safeguarding is an area that needs increased awareness and understanding. The programme has been prepared to share current information and intelligence to safeguarding practitioners working directly with those in need of support to promote a clearer understanding of digital safeguarding and signpost useful information and resources for continued development.

On the day, we’ll be looking in detail at a range of subjects including ‘Understanding the draft Online Safety Bill: what it means for you, and for providers’; ‘Exploring respect and relationships online’; ‘The blurred lines of online gaming: when lines are crossed and how to protect users’; ‘Digital citizenship: promoting right and wrong online’; ‘Online safety trends and issues update for safeguarding practitioners’, and ‘Latest trends on the ground’. We have a range of terrific guest speakers lined up for you, including Alexandra Evans, Head of Safety Public Policy, Europe, TikTok, who will be able to answer any questions you may have about this increasingly-popular social media platform.

And to close the conference, we’ll be announcing the winners of our first-ever Sacpa Safeguarding Awards, plus the recipient of our inaugural Sacpa Safeguarding Fellowship. For more information about the awards, please visit https://www.sacpa.org.uk/cpdandevents/sacpa-annual-safeguarding-awards/ - if you would like to enter, the deadline for submissions is Monday, 31 January, 2022.
